Store potatoes to support local consumption

The association pays a great attention to the establishment of cold storage stores for preserving potatoes. In 1949, the association started in the establishment of refrigerators to store the potato crop until the available storage spaces reached 33,000 tons used annually in storing potato seeds for members at a proper price, as well as storing quantities of potatoes for local consumption. When the refrigerators aren’t used in storing potatoes, it is used in storing some dairy products and fruit at times of not storing potatoes.

  • Within the 6000 tons, the capacity of the El-Sabahiya refrigerator, there are 1000 tons of freezing.
  • The construction of the Kafr Pauline refrigerator was funded with the guarantee of the board members at that time.
  • The rest of the refrigerators were created with self-financing from the association except for Damanhor and Sabahiya refrigerators, which were funded by a loan.
  • The investment in establishing refrigerators represents the largest and the most important part for the association, and therefore it always works on raising the efficiency of operation, for example: –
  • Conveyor belts were connected in all the association’s refrigerators to alleviate the employment crisis and to speed up the work.
  • An electronic scale was installed in each refrigerator to keep an eye on the storage process, as well as to serve the area of ​​each refrigerator.
  • Regular and seasonal maintenance of refrigerators (buildings and machines).
  • Replacement and refurbishment of refrigerators before 1980.
  • Developing the cooling system in the cooling wards of Kafr El-Zayat refrigerator.
  • Developing the cooling system in the cooling wards of El-Sabahiya and Kafr Pauline refrigerators.
  • Providing spare parts for the cooling equipments and generators.
