About The Association

The cooperation is one of the co-operative structured units specialized in potato crops. This association was established in 1936 with a capital of 136 pounds to care and serve potato growers. Membership in the association went through several stages according to the laws of the cooperation issued to regulate the cooperative structure.

This cooperation is considered the first agricultural cooperative society in the Middle East specialized in potato crop and the second Worldwide after the Dutch (ZPC) association. The cooperation was established to breakdown the monopoly of importing, exporting and storing the potato crop which was controlled by a few foreigners, importers, and traders for this important crop.

The Establishment of the Association

The establishment began in 6/6/1936 by some of potato growers in Giza, Monofeya, Qalyubia and, Dakahlia, and the Official Gazette (the Egyptian facts) published about it in their Volume 41, No. 23 issued in 2019. At that time, the name of the association was (the Central Cooperative for Potatoes in Giza) and the first board of directors was formed as follows: –

In September 1954, the name of the association was changed to the Agricultural Cooperative Association for Potato Producers in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the headquarter was moved from Giza to Cairo. Between 1954 to 1960, the choice of a temporary chairman and renewing confidence in the Board of Directors were determined by a ministerial decision. On 11/25/1960, the General Assembly declared the winning of the gentlemen, whose names are shown below, on the membership of the Board of Directors:
